Support Bentley's Law in Washington

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) needs your help to advance Bentley’s Law HB 1668 and SB 5841 in Washington to require impaired drivers to pay child support when an impaired driver causes a crash that kills a parent or guardian.

What is Bentley’s Law? The measure, HB 1668 introduced by Representative Donaghy and SB 5841 introduced by Senator Lovick, would require impaired drivers to pay restitution in the form of child support to a surviving spouse or other relatives who are raising the children of impaired driving victims until the children turn 18. SB 5841 could also require restitution payments be made in cases of serious impaired driving injury crash resulting in disability. Four states have enacted a version of Bentley’s law, including Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Maine.
