Support HALT and RIDE Act to eliminate drunk driving

Bipartisan legislation in Congress would ultimately mandate passive drunk driving prevention technology as standard equipment on all new vehicles. The HALT Act in the U.S. House and the RIDE Act in the U.S. Senate would require the U.S. Department of Transportation to issue a rulemaking to make this lifesaving technology available in all new passenger vehicles. We need your help to get this legislation passed.

On this page, please email your Members of Congress in support of the HALT and RIDE Acts, which will help eliminate drunk driving forever.

What is the HALT Act (H.R. 2138) and RIDE Act (S. 1331)? The Honoring Abbas Family Legacy to Terminate Drunk Driving Act, introduced in the U.S. House on March 23, is named for the Abbas family of Michigan, Rima and Issam and their three children, Ali, Isabella and Giselle, who were killed by a wrong-way drunk driver while they were returning home from a vacation on January 6, 2019. The RIDE Act is a similar bipartisan bill introduced in the Senate on April 22. The goal of the legislation is to eliminate drunk driving. The Insurance Institute for Highway and Auto Safety estimates standard, passive alcohol detection technology in all vehicles would save 9,400 lives a year.
